March 19th Meeting - Print Exchange

Hey everyone,

Big reminder; the March 19th Photo Exchange meeting at the Irvine Fine Arts Center is our Annual Dinner and Print exchange, which starts at our usual time of 6:30pm while family and guests are welcome to attend and joy in the fun.

Basic concept: bring a print, take home with a different print.

NOTE: this is NOT our usual meeting in which you bring five prints for a group critique (no lights and easels!) We will resume this at our April 16th meeting.

What you need to bring: a photographic based print. No size limits, and it's acceptable to have it matted (such that my photogravure will have a nice museum matte), but no frames. You want to bring one of your best to share. More about that in a moment....

How this whole print exchange works:

1. All of the prints will be laid out on table tops, and we will place a number next to earth print.

2. While eating dinner, you can obtain a small piece of paper and pencil and select your favorite THREE prints. (yes, you can vote for your own if you feel compelled)

3. We will total up the scores.

4. The print which gets the highest score allows the maker of the print to choose one of the other prints on display.

5. The person whose print is initially selected then gets to go to the front of the group and tell us about their print. THEN that person gets to select a print from the remaining prints on display.

6. And then that person gets to talk about their print and who then selects a print from those which remain on display.

7. repeat steps 5 and 6 until all of the prints have been selected!

Which is usually a fun and smooth process, while we still figure out a way to even mess this up a little bit each year.

HINT: the sooner your print is selected, the sooner you get to choose your print. Thus the reason to bring one of your best prints (especially if you have a print that you previously brought to the PX that everyone raved over.) Your collectors in the PX will appreciate this as well.

Dinner: the fine dining will be our traditional pizza (pepperoni and cheese), vegetable and fruit trays, cookies, and soft drinks (including water).

At the last meeting, Kathy Shapiro was sharing her group exhibition info at the JCC art show; which is on-going until April 5th. More information here: https://www.jewishcollaborativeoc.org/jewishartists

Let me know if you have any questions!

Cheers,

Doug Stockdale

August 26th 2025 Update

OC Camera - Photo Exchange Members Exhibition for 2025 - Cancelled

Unfortunately, the 2025 Member's Exhibition at OC Camera Gallery is not going to occur in October 2025 as previously announced.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this recent series of events, and apologies for any inconveniences that this has caused you.

We now have a new date for an exhibition at OC Camera Gallery in early May 2026 (May 11 - June 8, Artist reception May 16th).

At the next Photo Exchange meeting, Sept 18th, we will discuss with the group potential exhibition options going forward, such as the 2025 Members Exhibition artwork juried by Rudy and what to exhibit in May 2026.

Fortunately, we did not commit to the printing of the 2025 Members Exhibition catalog, while Larry Pribble has not deposited the per-sell catalog funds from last Thursday's meeting. For those who did pre-purchase the 2025 catalog, please let Larry know if you would like your funds returned, or deposited in advance for the next exhibition catalog.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Best regards,

Doug

OC Camera - Photo Exchange Members Exhibition for 2025 - Update.

Hello everyone,

First, big congratulations to everyone for being juried into the 2025 PX Members Exhibition by Rudy Vega!

Important dates:

Professionally framed artwork (wire hanging) delivery: OC Camera by noon on Tuesday, Oct 1st

Alternative delivery: bring your packaged & protected artwork to the PX meeting on Sept 18th

Artist reception: Saturday, Oct 11th, 5 - 7pm

Artwork pick-up: 12pm, Monday, November 4th (or make arrangements for others)

Remember: OC Camera Gallery commission is 40% (we sold 3 framed pieces last year)

The 16 exhibitors will include: Paul Anderson, Roger Bennett, Jan Brueckner, Joe Foster,  Michael Graves, Janos Lanyi, Evan Odom, Dennis O’Reilly, William Prothero, Kathy B. Shapiro, Catherine Singer, Douglas Stockdale, Tony Tayler, Beatta Tuominen, Rudy Vega, and Sharon Whalen.

Also, Mike and I are also concurrently working on the exhibition catalog. Mike will probably have some individual questions about your page over the next few days. Since we did not sell as many 2024 catalogs as was initially verbally committed for the last time, the print run will probably be a little less, so I am working on pricing now.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers!

Doug
